Hybrid Auctions That Expand The Room

Our hybrid auction platform brings interstate, international and absent buyers into the bidding in real time, verified and supported by our team.

Hybrid Auctions

More bidders in the room means a stronger result

The traditional auction has one structural flaw: you can only sell to the people standing on the nature strip. Every buyer travelling, working interstate, living overseas or simply unable to attend on a Saturday morning is a bidder you have lost before the auction starts.

A hybrid auction removes that limitation. Remote bidders are registered and verified in advance, then bid live alongside the crowd with a team member supporting them through every step. The auctioneer runs a single auction; the pool of people competing in it is simply larger.

Our approach

How it works

01

Verified remote bidders

Every remote bidder is identified and approved before the day, so the process meets Victorian auction requirements and no one is guessing who is bidding.

02

Supported through the auction

A team member is on the line with each remote bidder, relaying the state of the auction so they can bid with confidence.

03

Genuine competition

Additional verified bidders change the dynamic in the room. Local buyers who assumed they were unopposed find they are not.

04

Seamless for the crowd

On the ground it looks and feels like a traditional Ray White auction. The technology is invisible to everyone but the bidder using it.

Who a hybrid auction reaches

  • Interstate buyers relocating to Melbourne's inner east
  • Expatriate and international buyers in other time zones
  • Local buyers travelling, unwell or otherwise unable to attend
  • Investors who buy on numbers and inspection reports
  • Family members bidding on behalf of a purchaser

Other selling services

You can only sell to the people who can bid. A hybrid auction simply widens who that is.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a hybrid auction legal in Victoria?

Yes. Remote bidding is permitted provided bidders are properly identified and registered in accordance with Victorian auction rules. We handle that registration and verification before the day.

Does remote bidding slow the auction down?

No. Remote bidders are on an open line with a team member, and bids are relayed to the auctioneer immediately. The pace is set by the auctioneer, exactly as it would be otherwise.

How do remote bidders inspect the property?

Through private inspections, video walkthroughs and building reports arranged during the campaign. Our buyer management process treats a remote buyer with the same depth as a local one.

Does it cost extra?

No. Hybrid capability is part of how we run auctions, not an upgrade you pay for. Marketing costs are agreed in writing before the campaign starts.

What if the property passes in?

The same post-auction negotiation applies, and remote bidders remain part of it. Our auction strategy maps the pass-in scenario before the day.

Can a remote bidder sign the contract?

Yes, electronically, with the same terms as any other purchaser. We coordinate with your conveyancer to make sure the paperwork is ready.

Do interstate buyers really compete on price?

Frequently. Buyers relocating from Sydney or returning from overseas are often comparing our market to a more expensive one, and they bid accordingly.

Is a hybrid auction right for every property?

Not every one. Where the buyer pool is entirely local, it adds little. Where a property has interstate, international or investor appeal, it can change the result. We will tell you honestly which applies.
